President Obama is making history once again.

The last time the United States has had communication with Iran on a political level was during the Iranian Revolution in 1979.

Just yesterday, Obama announced that he had just gotten off a phone conversation with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani for the first conversation between leaders of both countries since then.

The U.N. announced earlier in the week that the two would not meet face-to-face for a meeting during a General Assembly being that it would be too “complicated”, but the phone conversation did take place.

Obama said of the discussion:

“The two of us discussed our ongoing efforts to reach an agreement over Iran’s nuclear program,” said Obama. “I reiterated to President Rouhani what I said in New York: while there were surely be important obstacles to moving forward and success is by no means guaranteed, I believe we can reach a comprehensive solution.”

“Resolving this issue could serve as a major step forward in a new relationship between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran, one based on mutual interest and mutual respect.”

Reports say that the call was first initiated by Rouhani’s team, being that the President wanted to speak for some time now.

The call lasted for about 15 minutes and took place at 2:30 in the afternoon.

We’re glad that progress is being made between the two countries!
