Here’s incentive for congressional Republicans to end the government shutdown. Another day, another fraternity, and another case of accepted rape culture. An email sent to prospective new members of Alpha Tau Omega at Vanderbilt University made light of a recent rape case that occurred at the school. The email, which announced upcoming events, including a Monday Night Football viewing, said this: “We have refreshments and stadium seating. This will be a rape-free event…I promise. Football is safe again.” The author of the email was referencing the current rape case involving four former members of the Vanderbilt football team. Not funny dude. [DailyMail]

Sorry Malala. The team tasked with dismantling and destroying Syria’s chemical weapon stockpile has been awarded the 2013 Nobel Peace Prize for its “extensive efforts to eliminate chemical weapons.” The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) is currently working in Damascus to destroy Syrian President Bashar Assad’s arsenal of chemical weapons.
