So this happened.

Don Lemon, the CNN host known for sticking his foot in his mouth more than once, had some very interesting things to say about the death of NFL star Adrian Peterson’s 2-year-old son.

In a piece posted on BlackAmericaWeb, Lemon commented on Peterson’s absence from his son’s life, calling him more “MIA than MVP.”

The child’s death is certainly tragic. And I feel bad for all of those who loved him. But like many people out there, I’m struggling with how to feel about his dad, Adrian Peterson.

Because, although Peterson allegedly didn’t know definitively that the boy was his until a few months ago. A few months are not a few weeks, not a few days. A few months are a few months. That’s a long time.

But most surprisingly (and offensively) his post suggested that the child was abused because Peterson wasn’t there.

The cold hard fact is that children of single parents have a 77 percent greater risk of being harmed by physical abuse than children living with both parents. That’s according to the National Incidence Study.

And many kids in a single parent households are physically and or sexually abused by their mother’s boyfriends or acquaintances; the men who come and go who have no connection to the child.

And while the issue of the child’s paternity and Peterson’s involvement is one thing, the statement that children in single parent homes are at greater risk of being harmed insinuates that children who live with both of their biological parents or a family member would somehow be immune to that abuse.

Which we know is not the truth. In as many as 93 percent of child sexual/physical abuse cases, the child knows the person committing the abuse and 40 percent of those sexually abused are assaulted by family members.

Yet, Lemon ended with this:

I always say you should plan for a child or stop having them out-of-wedlock.

Don’t take my word for it, the silence of that little 2-year-old boy, the little dead boy, speaks volumes.

What Lemon has done is inadvertently blame everyone around this child for his death EXCEPT for the man who actually killed him. And in the process, offended the father who just lost a child last week with his own lack of compassion.

Read the rest of his piece and sound off below. Does Lemon have a point? Or is he dead wrong?
