The last song on The Notorious B.I.G.’s Life After Death album is “You’re Nobody (Til Somebody Kills You),” a song where a paranoid Biggie ponders his own demise. It’s an all-time classic song.

And apparently, Rick Ross samples it on his new album, Mastermind. The other day, Ross invited a number of bloggers and music people to come to the studio and hear tracks off his upcoming project.

VIBE was in the house, and one of the songs that caught their ear is the Biggie-sampled record:

“Ross said that he feels Biggie could relate to this record, before the audio reporting the shooting at his Rolls Royce in January begins to play. Big was infamously gunned down in Los Angeles in 1997 while seated in the passenger side of a GMC Suburban SUV.

Next, the instrumental from The Notorious B.I.G.’s “You’re Nobody (Until Somebody Kills You)” drops and Ross began to address the attempt on his own life, his vocals eerily sounding a bit like Christopher Wallace’s. French Montana does his best impression of Future Vandross as he sings on the chorus on the song, of which Rozay didn’t reveal the name.

Ross, sporting a black Diamond Supply Co. sweatsuit, Philadelphia Flyers cap and gold Jesus piece, skimmed through about six songs that mildly varied in content.”

According to the article, Ross also played tracks like “Ultimate Price” and “Francis Ford Coppola,” named after The Godfather director.

Mastermind is coming December 17th. The next single will be the Jay Z-assisted “The Devil is a Lie.”
