Now that Bansky has ended his month-long graffiti tour throughout the streets of New York, there’s another artist making major waves for his work in the Big Apple. Brooklyn-based artist KAWS invaded his hometown and put new work on full display when he debuted two exhibits in NYC on the same night: one at the Mary Boone Gallery and the other at Galerie Perrotin.

Both exhibits have been receiving critical acclaim and are the cause of the influx in the #Kaws hashtags on Instagram (yeah, go check it out). Many art aficionados and celebrities, including Swizz Beatz, Alicia Keys and Pharrell Williams, flocked to catch a glimpse of the new work, which includes two 18-foot sculptures.

KAWS, aka Brian Donnelly, has developed quite a following and most recently was the mastermind behind the newly-designed VMA awards. In an interview with ArtInfo, he explained his artistic process as follows:

“To make the paintings, I make drawings and then redraw them on the computer, using Adobe Illustrator, in different layers. Then we print these out, project them, and make color charts. With Illustrator I
can Frankenstein all these images together and experiment with many compositions.”

Check out the video and photos below from the grand opening and be sure to check out the KAWS exhibit from Nov. 2 to Dec. 21 at the Mary Boone Gallery.
