UPDATE: 11/11/13 2:25 PM EST

According to police, the Iranian gunman who shot and killed three people in Brooklyn has been identified at Raefe Akhbar.

Akhbar was not a part of a indie-rock group killed, as previously reported. According to New York City Police Commissioner Ray Kelly, he shot and killed two members of the Yellow Dogs and a third Iranian musician over a personal money dispute.

The Yellow Dogs’ publicist issued a statement correcting the report that the shooter was an ex-bandmember and releasing the identities of those deceased:

The shooter was not a former member of the band The Yellow Dogs, he was in another band from Iran and the two groups were acquaintances in the past. A personal conflict between the guys resulted in the dissolution of their relationship in 2012. The shooting resulted in the death of two of the members of the Yellow Dogs, Sourosh Farazmand (guitarist) and Arash Farazmand (drummer), along with a friend of theirs, fellow musician and author Ali Eskandarian. The shooter died from a self inflicted bullet wound on site.

Four are dead after a frustrated bandmate fatally shot three other members and then himself in a Brooklyn row house early Monday morning.

The shooter, who has not been identified, was apparently kicked out of the band, although police aren’t sure if that was the motivation behind the shooting.

All of the deceased are believed to be Iranian nationals living in the United States.

According to ABC:

Police said officers responded after receiving a 911 call about shots fired inside the location.

On the second floor, police said they found a 27-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the chest. A 35-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound to the head on the third floor. Another man was found on the same floor, fatally shot in the head; his age was not immediately known.

The shooter was discovered on the roof with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, police said. A rifle was found next to his body.

Another bandmate was wounded on the arm. The 22-year-old was hospitalized in stable condition, police said.

The investigation continues and the victims’ identities are being withheld pending family notifications.
