The New Mexico police officer who was caught on tape firing into a minivan full of children during a traffic stop has been suspended.

If you recall, Elias Montoya shot at the van as motorist Oriana Farrell drove away after he stopped her. Farrell had been stopped for speeding and fled after a short argument. The dashboard camera also showed another officer bashing the van’s window with his nightstick.

She was later arrested, along with her teen son.

New Mexico State Police Chief Pete Kassetas told The Associated Press on Thursday that officer Elias Montoya has been suspended with pay pending a disciplinary investigation into the shooting outside the small tourist town of Taos.

An internal investigation continues.
