So this happened.

A Sonic fast-food restaurant in Belton, Missouri thought it would be a good idea to post this message on their signboard, referring to this week’s Washington Washington Football Team vs. Kansas City Chiefs football game.

‘’KC CHIEFS’ WILL SCALP THE Washington Football Team FEED THEM WHISKEY SEND – 2 – RESERVATION”

Not surprisingly, the sign caught some major flack after being shared thousands of times on Twitter. The restaurant ended up apologizing for their offensive verbiage via Twitter:

“Please know that the sign posted today is something we do not condone, and we are so sorry for how it has hurt so many. The racist remarks on the sign at that 1 drive-in were beyond wrong & NOT a part of our brand values. So sorry for hurt caused.”

Sonic’s vice president of public relations further reiterated that message.

“The remarks posted on this message board were wrong, offensive and unacceptable,” Patrick Lenow said.

“In a misguided effort to support his football team an independent franchise owner allowed passion to override good judgment. The owner has reinforced with his employees the boundaries of what is acceptable and unacceptable. On behalf of the franchise owner and our entire brand we apologize for the offensive remarks.”

Not such a great idea, given that the Washington Football Team are already embroiled in a fierce battle over their offensive name and mascot.
