A dancing quartet that wanted to spread holiday cheer has been hit with backlash over their performance.

According to the Fox 10 News, a dance group of black drag queens called the Prancing Elites were invited to perform for the small town of Semmes, Alabama for a Christmas parade. The dancers took a page out of Mean Girls and played up a sexier version of Santa that had townspeople upset. Local resident Claudia Davis believed that someone should have warned people about the performance.

“I was outraged and appalled. I never experienced anything like this at the Semmes Holiday parade.” she said. “If they were going to put this kind of activity they should have notified the people of Semmes so they could have a choice on whether our child wanted to attend and see something like that.”

Even though some people are upset about the performance, the dancers believed that they did what they were asked to do — dance. According to Gawker, Prancing Elites group captain Kentrell Collins told reporters that they were invited and were shocked from the reactions they received.

Kentrell Collins said he had every reason to believe the routine would be welcomed at the Semmes Christmas parade. After all, they were invited. “I said, ‘we’re all over 21 and we’re guys.’ She was so excited. She was like ‘I didn’t know they had any groups like that in Mobile,'” Collins said.

While some people don’t realize it’s 2013, others have been praising the group on their Facebook page and defending their performance. The group has been booked for New Year’s, but we’re sure they will have plenty of shows in 2014.
