Phoenix’s character, Theodore Trombly, has always been somewhat of an introvert; Oddly enough, he makes a living writing love letters for people who struggle to express themselves. In an attempt to soothe his badly broken heart, Theodore decides to purchase an operating system with artificial intelligence; He and the OS form a strong friendship that eventually grows into a mutual love for one another.
