Despite its great success and popularity among viewers, HBO is preparing to say goodbye to The Newsroom after season three.

The show’s star Jeff Daniels, who plays Will McAvoy, announced on Twitter last September that the popular show would be returning for a third season. He did not, however, reveal that The Newsroom‘s third season would be its last.

“It’s official. #Newsroom coming back for a Season 3,” he informed fans.

Two weeks later, the actor took home an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his work on the show. In his acceptance speech, he thanked the network for their support:

“Thank you to HBO. I can’t imagine a more creative place to work, they’re so supportive,” he said. “The cast and crew – I share this with you.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, for the final season the show’s creator, Aaron Sorkin, and executive producers Alan Poul and Scott Rudin, will enlist the help of Paul Lieberstein. Lieberstein was once the showrunner for The Office. He will reportedly serve as the show’s fourth executive producer.
