For as long as some of us ’80s babies can recall, Michael Jordan’s name has been one of the biggest not only in the basketball realm – but also in the footwear fashion world.

So this weekend, when the opportunity arose to celebrate the grand opening of North America’s first Jordan-only retail store with Jordan Brand and Footaction, we woke up on Saturday morning at a time only known to sneakerheads on a cop mission, to head down to the store’s West 34th Street location just one block away from Madison Square Garden, where the hardwood has seen many historic moments.

Jordan Brand President Larry Miller, Footaction President and CEO Jake Jacobs, Spike Lee and a line of customers were on the scene to commemorate the opening with a new twist on the ribbon cutting: untying the shoelace to the store.

Once inside, there were a bevy of details to give the store a classic Jordan Brand touch, from the hardwood floors to the printed walls and the Jordan Jump Man chandelier.

Check out the first look inside the Flight 23 Store in the video above.
