We’re time traveling. Last season, Mark and Estel had us living in a “New World” with their Spring/Summer 2014 collection, but it’s time to re-visit the past with their “Old World” Fall/Winter 2014 collection. The designer duo filled their normal 9 p.m. time slot at the new and improved tents at Lincoln Center, kicking off the first day of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week.

Mark and Estel as a fashion line emerged in the press when Mary Kate Olsen began wearing their designs. In 2009, Mark and Estel garnered further recognition when they custom-made their ‘Ripped & Holey Leggings’ for Lady Gaga on her Fame Ball Tour (yes, the ones she wore while shooting boobie rockets). Now, the pair has taken the color out of Fall/Winter 2014 with a completely monochromatic runway collection, moving “masculine shapes” into new realms.

The design and music duo quite literally rocked the runway with their “Old World” Collection, which was closed with a special performance from the designers as a treat to the stylists, writers, celebrities and industry elite who came out to view the Victorian-inspired trends, including edgy pieces like Mark and Estel’s silk cape and military style coat-dress.

Trends spotted: I found new-millennium Carmen Sandiego, she walked right down the runway…Mark and Estel are less about the trends, and more about the rocker-chic working girl aesthetic, who will strip a layer off to go from her cool job to a rave.

Faces in the front row: Estel Day (Designer), Skylar Grey (Singer, Songwriter), Maksim Chmerkovskiy (Dancing with the Stars), Rutina Wesley (True Blood), Val Chmerkovskiy (Dancing with the Stars), Vanessa Ray (Pretty Little Liars, Blue Bloods), Taryn Manning (Orange Is The New Black), Tracy Anderson (Celebrity Trainer)

My rating: Much like I felt about Mark & Estel’s New World Spring/Summer 2014 collection, my affinity for black clothing makes this line feel both approachable and practical. They aren’t game changers, but each piece has the ability to provide a subtle edge to a well-balanced wardrobe.

My favorite look: The white faux sheepskin cloak modeled with satin high waist pants, because throwing something on that chic will have you feeling luxurious in Trader Joe’s.
