Going green in college can be simple. With just a few green items, you can take your boring dorm room into a cute and creative thinking space. Keeping those red cups and plastic containers around won’t give you a green dorm, so here are some items that will. Your wallet and parents will be very happy.

Recycled Water Bottles

Price: $5-15.00

Save money  and plastic bottles by buying BPA free water bottles. Reusing plastic bottles can be harmful for your health. Most water bottles today are also PVC free and feature special filters that clean your water on the go. You can buy them at almost any retail store.

Target Furniture

Thrift Shops

Thrift shops are the best place to find items on a budget. Reusing items like dinner tables and chairs can help you save money and get those creative juices flowing. Many thrift shops across the country also allow you to donate your clothes as well. Call it the big switcheroo.

Freecycle

Freecycle is similar to thrift shops but there’s one difference – it’s free! The company allows you to connect with people in your area that want to recycle or reuse furniture, gadgets, hats, or whatever else you can think of. Check out their website and sign on to your area’s mailing list for free stuff.

Bamboo Plants

Bamboo plants bring good luck and everlasting fortune. OK, maybe not the fortune part, but they do bring good vibes and help you grow a green thumb. If you aren’t used to taking care of plants, than a bamboo plant is a good start. They’re tiny and require minimal care. Just keep them out of the sun! See more tips here.

Crock Pot
