Former New Orleans mayor Ray Nagin was found guilty on 20 counts of bribery and wire fraud.

According to CBS News, the fallen politician had allegedly taken more than $5000,000 dollars worth of bribes during his time in office-before and after Hurricane Katrina hit.

Nagin faced a 21-count indictment, and he was found guilty on 20 of them. Prosecutors had alleges he took bribes worth more than $500,000 in a string of criminal acts that began before Hurricane Katrina struck in 2005 and continued during the recovery.

The case began late last January, but was put on hold due to the deep plunges in the weather. The case continued this month where former workers and witnesses claimed they received bribes that included paid vacations and granite from Stone Age, LLC, a company owned by Nagin and his sons. Nagin denied all claims but then admitted that he was ‘duty-bound’ into approving contracts by favorable contracts.

More details to come on his sentencing soon.
