Michael Sam was met with nothing but love and joy last night during halftime at the University of Missouri’s football game against Tennessee.

As he may become the first openly gay NFL player after coming out last week, fans and friends have been welcoming the NFL prospect’s courage with open arms and most recently, a well-deserved standing ovation.

Sam and the rest of the Missouri Tigers were being honored with the 2014 Cotton Bowl Championship Trophy at the game and as he walked out on to the field, the crowd went wild with admiration.

HuffingtonPost reports that 51-year-old Michelle Carmichael was one woman supporting the footballer by wearing a t-shirt that read “We Are All CoMo Sexuals” and saying of her support:

“Because Michael Sam stood up for Mizzou his entire career and we need to stand up for him”

The shirt references Columbia, Mo., which is where Sam first told his teammates that he was gay in August.  He officially shared his sexuality with the world last Sunday.
