New York City police have confirmed a second person has died in the fire and building collapse in East Harlem.

According to Reuters, one person is dead after a building collapse and fire in East Harlem. At least 17 have been injured, four seriously.

According to NBC New York, 16 individuals have been taken to area hospitals following what was originally a three-alarm fire and possible explosion in East Harlem this morning.

Fire officials confirmed the blaze was upgraded to a five-alarm fire.

Metro-North trains have been suspended in and out of Grand Central Station due to debris from the explosion blocking the tracks.

It is also being reported that two buildings collapsed due to the fire, although FDNY has not confirmed this to be true.

New York City police officers and fire officials are responding to a three-alarm fire and possible explosion at 116th Street and Park Avenue in Manhattan.

The fire, which occurred in the East Harlem neighborhood, reportedly hospitalized 11 people and aided in a partial collapse of the building. It has not been confirmed if individuals are still inside the structure.

ConEd has been ordered to shut off gas in the area.
