Kid Cudi has been working hard to promote his new movie Need For Speed in the past few weeks, but don’t get it twisted – he’s been busting his butt when it comes to his music as well.
The “Pursuit of Happiness” artist recently stopped by The Arsenio Hall Show, where he talked about his thoughts on Hip-Hop’s current state, and the role he plays in it.
He told Arsenio:
“I think the money, cash, hos thing needs to be deaded,” said the former G.O.O.D. Music signee. “I feel like that’s holding us back as a culture, as black people. That doesn’t advance us in any way, shape, or form. We’ve been doing that thing for years now. It’s been like four decades of the same ol’ [expletive].”
He also talked about who he thinks is pushing boundaries in the growing culture:
“If anything, I’m the only one.”
Things got personal on the show when Cudi dished on trying to inspire kids who are suicidal, and what his own thoughts were composed of:
“All I wanted to do was help kids not feel alone and stop kids from committing suicide. There wasn’t a week or a day that didn’t go by where I was just like, ‘You know, I wanna check out.’”
If you didn’t know, Cudi recently pulled a Beyoncé with the release of his new album Satelitte Flight: The Journey to Mother Moon, and surprised fans by releasing on iTunes with just two hours notice. The album went #4 on the Billboard charts!
He said of the release:
“I just wanted to do something different and it worked.”
