Four men have been convicted of gang-raping a 22-year-old photographer in Mumbai last August in an abandoned mill compound. A fifth is being tried in juvenile court. Mohammed Salim Ansari, Siraj Rehmat Khan, Vijay Mohan Jadhav and Mohammed Kasim Hafeez Shaikh, also known as Kasim Bangali, who were aged between 18 and 27 at the time of their arrest, will be sentenced on Friday and could face life in prison for the attack, which took place when the woman went to take photographs of the mill with a male colleague. The head of NATO had an unsettling opinion about Russia’s dealings as of late — President Vladimir Putin may not stop with the annexation of Crimea. Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said Russia’s move should serve as a “wake-up call” for European nations to bolster defense spending. “My major concern is that this won’t stop,” Rasmussen told a gathering at the Brookings Institution, a Washington think-tank. “Crimea is one example. But I see Crimea as an element in a greater pattern, in a more long-term Russian, or at least Putin, strategy. So of course our major concern now is whether he will go beyond Crimea.” Read about it here…[Reuters]

A principal at a Texas school will lose her job after she allegedly prohibited students from speaking Spanish. Here’s an interesting statistic. According to a new analysis of FBI homicide data by the Urban Institute, among cases nationwide where a woman killed an adult man, white women who killed black men were most likely to be found justified, at 13.5 percent of the cases. But get this — just 2.6 percent of white women who killed white men, and 5.7 percent of black women who killed black men were found to be justified.
