In a statement released by his lawyer, Gai Scott is claiming he acted in self defense against Benzino at his mother’s funeral.
“When the dust settles with respect to this case, it’s going to be abundantly clear that Mr. Scott, a licensed gun owner, was acting in self-defense and in defense of his family,” said Jon Ciraulo, Scott’s lawyer.
Scott pleaded not guilty to armed assault with intent to murder.

Love & Hip-Hop star Benzino is thanking his late mother for saving his life on Saturday.
The reality show star and founder of The Source was shot in the shoulder by his own nephew, Gai Scott, as they were en route to his mother’s funeral in Boston, MA.
The rapper (real name Raymond Scott) says he wasn’t afraid after getting shot multiple times, posting the picture above with his fiancée and a caption that pays respect to his mother:
“Feel much better. GOD IS REAL. MY MOTHER TOUCHED ME IM CERTAIN.”
Benzino remained positive when he spoke to reporters Sunday from his hospital bed.
“In those situations you can’t be afraid, you have to be smart,” Scott, 48, told the Boston Herald last night from his bed at South Shore Hospital in South Weymouth, where the former Made Men frontman and reality TV star is recovering from gunshot wounds to his arm and right shoulder he said cost him “a pint of blood.”
According to the Daily Mail, the funeral continued following the shooting, even though blood covered several cars at the church.
Father William Williams, who presided over the ceremony, recalled seeing blood on the vehicles in the funeral cortege.
‘I said to one of the guys, “There’s blood on the hearse,”’ the clergyman told the WHDH news station.
Before his arrival in Boston, the rapper was skeptic about going to the funeral because of his issues with certain family members. After talking with friend and L&HH co-star Stevie J, he decided to go. However, as Benzino drove in his mother’s funeral procession, he was shot multiple times in the arm and shoulder.
“As I got to the beginning of the procession where the hearse was, the perpetrator rolled down a car window and started shooting and shooting,” he said. Scott said he spilled out of his vehicle and tried to get into the hearse for cover, but said, “They wouldn’t let me in. I had blood all over me,” he said.
Gai Scott has been arrested and charged with armed assault and intent to murder. As Benzino continues to heal from his wounds with family and loved ones, we wish him a speedy recovery.
