A 13-year-old boy was in the wrong place at the wrong time when he was shot twice in the face in Brooklyn, New York on Monday.

According to Gothamist, Gama Droiville was with his aunt outside a Flatbush Area pizzeria when shots rang out. The boy was hit with two stray bullets in his eye and the back of his ear.

According to the NYPD, the shooting occurred just before noon, at Flatbush and Beverly Road. The gunman hit Gama and a 24-year-old man, who was the apparent target and was hit in the leg. The Post reports, “He was being interviewed by detectives, who hadn’t yet determined a motive.”

Witnesses helped Gama into the local pizzeria, using a styrofoam cup to help protect his eye while waiting for the police to arrive. Bystanders described the scene to reporters:

Gama’s aunt Laurieuse Droiville shouted, “My boy is dying! My boy is dying!” and the wounded boy was helped into Avenue Pizza II. She recalled, “Next thing I know he was on the floor. He was saying he can’t see.” Another person, Assitou Diallo, told the News, “I heard something like five shots. The boy was bleeding. … The woman was jumping up and down screaming. He was bleeding but he was trying to calm her down.”

Gama is currently in stable condition, however doctors are worried that he will lose his eye. The other victim was shot in the leg and taken to a nearby hospital.

Police are currently looking for the shooter, who was recorded by a surveillance camera, seen in the video below.
