He’s starred in Beyoncé’s “Pretty Hurts” video, Lana Del Rey’s short film “Tropico” and Katy Perry’s “E.T.” But now 22-year-old Shaun Ross is stepping into his own spotlight with an inspiring TED Talk.

Growing up with albinism had been a struggle for Shaun, who, before becoming a rising star in the industry, was once kept inside the house by his own mother in order to “protect” him. For Shaun, the idea of becoming a professional model was one that seemed far-fetched; he says:

“Automatically, when I was approached to do modeling, I never would have thought that I could have been a model because in my eyes, the way society painted it for me was that I’m completely wrong. I’m not acceptable, and I’m not beautiful.”

Watch the video to hear about his self-encouragement movement called “In My Skin I Win” that promotes “loving the skin you’re in” above.
