Uh oh, Drizzy’s in trouble.
Drake is being sued by jazz artist Jimmy Smith’s estate for his use of an interlude on the Nothing Was The Same collaboration with Jay Z, “Pound Cake.”
According to Jimmy Smith’s estate, the Toronto native didn’t have permission to use the 1982 track “Jimmy Smith Rap.”
To make matters worse, Jimmy Smith’s estate claims the “Days In The East” rapper never even asked to use the monologue (c’mon son). Now, Jimmy’s estate is suing Drake and Cash Money Records in the amount of $300,000 for the sample.
In regards to previous sampling lawsuits, $300,000 is a little on the low side, but still a small hit for Drake.
This past weekend, Drake made his very first appearance at the Coachella Music Festival when Def Jam singer Jhene Aiko brought him out on stage to perform his Nothing Was The Same jam “From Time.”
