Today in “Stories from Florida,” we have a woman who practices cosmetic surgery without a license from the comfort of her garage, and another woman who checked into a hotel to go on a crack-binge, went into labor, and had her baby in the bathtub.

Did we mention she chewed through the umbilical cord?

We can’t make this stuff up.

Medical Malpractice:

Alejandra Tobon of Pembroke Pines was arrested after police discovered she practiced cosmetic surgery without a license in her garage.

Tobon now faces a third-degree felony charge of practicing medicine without a license.

Pembroke Pines police said they were tipped off by a former patient who suffered an adverse reaction after Tobon administered a Botox injection in December.

Police said Tobon was performing unlicensed cosmetic procedures in her garage, which was converted to look like a doctor’s office.

Police believe there may be other victims who underwent procedures, including Botox injections, filler injections and plasma therapy, in her garage. The investigation continues. [Local10]

Worst Parent Of The Year Award…

Chrystal Hassell, a pregnant 37-year-old of Ocala, Fla., checked into a motel room with her boyfriend and 11-month-old child in order to have a place to smoke crack for an entire day.

But Mother Nature threw a monkey wrench into Hassell’s plans when she went into labor at 7-months and had her baby in the motel bathtub.

But it gets even weirder:

Hassell’s boyfriend, Vincent Terry, had left the motel to run an errand, so she delivered the baby herself in the motel bathtub, chewing through the umbilical cord with her teeth.

Afterward, she called Terry and asked him to come back, but he was pulled over for speeding on the way. An officer might have been understanding under the circumstances, but Terry was wanted for attempted murder in Colorado, News 13 reported.

Hassell waited an hour before calling 911, giving the baby breaths to keep it alive, investigators say.

Hassell is being charged with child neglect. Both parents are now in jail and the 11-month-old has been placed in foster care. The infant is currently in critical condition. [Gawker]
