For female artists, finding a voice in the male-dominated music industry can be tough. With so much competition out there, the pressure to become and stay relevant is heavy, but ELLE magazine is celebrating the select few who shine like diamonds and break the boundaries placed before them.

Iggy Azalea, Ariana Grande and Angel Haze are only three of the eleven women highlighted in the seventh-annual Women in Music issue, which celebrates some of the most exciting voices of the “hear” and now. Some of the artists are newcomers, others, like Cher, not so much, but they all are ones to watch–or at least listen to.

Check out some of their features below.

Iggy, On being ready to drop the swagger after giving a voice to brash girls everywhere…

“I never dove into my personal experiences. I didn’t want to be vulnerable,” she says. “I always felt like [rap] was escapism, but sometimes you can miss being human.”

Ariana, On always looking forward…

“If something great happens, I celebrate it for about—I’m not even kidding—a minute and a half,” she says. “Then I start thinking about the next step.”

Angel, On revealing her personal struggles in her music…

“I came out of the gate projectile vomiting my demons all over the place,” says Haze. “It felt like immediately a weight had been lifted.”
