Welcome to the future.

Powdered alcohol may soon be a thing at liquor stores near you because…why not?

Palcohol, as it is cleverly called, was approved for consumption by the Federal Government just recently, but despite the name, the company that creates the powdery stuff wants you to know that you can’t snort it.

Think of it as Kool-Aid. Here’s a message from the company’s site:

We have seen comments about goofballs wanting to snort it. Don’t do it! It is not a responsible or smart way to use the product. To take precautions against this action, we’ve added volume to the powder so it would take more than a half of a cup of powder to get the equivalent of one drink up your nose. You would feel a lot of pain for very little gain. Just use it the right way.

The correct way to use it? Just add water!

But not everyone is convinced this is such a great idea. Including the bureau that approved it.

A representative for the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau, Tom Hogue, said in an email to The Associated Press late Monday that the approvals were issued in error.

Hogue did not immediately respond to requests for further details, including how the error occurred. In an email message, Palcohol’s parent company Lipsmark said “there seemed to be a discrepancy on our fill level, how much powder is in the bag.” It said it will resubmit the labels for approval.

Guess we’ll have to wait and see if this new way to carry around alcohol in lieu of big glass bottles will actually be a thing.

And a safe thing at that.
