Ever the shock value queen, Joan Rivers finally met her limit during a taping of the Today show when she mocked the victims of Cleveland kidnapper Ariel Castro.

While discussing her living arrangements with daughter Melissa, Rivers quipped:

Those women in the basement in Cleveland had more space.”

If you recall, Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight were held against their will in Castro’s house for nearly a decade and endured verbal, physical and sexual abuse.

But after the lawyer for two of the victims came forward to express the hurt they felt over Rivers’ comments, she shot back with this:

They got to live rent free for more than a decade,” she defiantly told TMZ.One of them has a book deal. Neither are in a psych ward. They’re ok. I bet you within three years one of them will be on Dancing with the Stars.”

She later told a Cleveland paper that an apology from her was unnecessary.

“There is nothing to apologize for,” she told the Cleveland Plain Dealer. “I know what those girls went through. It was a little stupid joke. There is nothing to apologize for. I made a joke. That’s what I do. Calm down. Calm f***ing down. I’m a comedienne. They’re free, so let’s move on.”

Can you say…rude?

At least one person during the awkward interview felt the need to apologize. Today show host Willie Geist, who was taken aback by Rivers’ comments, said the show does not condone what she said.

“We regret her comment was made on our air – deeply and truly. I hope our reactions in real time show that way we felt about her attempted joke… We obviously didn’t find it funny and we didn’t approve of it.”

Who else thinks it’s time for the 80-year-old comedienne to hang up her mic? Talk about disrespect on another level.
