Today in “Stories From Florida,” we have a man who was robbed and shot after a romantic date at Burger King, a robber who was caught after he left a note with his name on it in the bank, a woman whose unborn baby was tragically killed over Facebook, and someone who is convinced we’re not really alone.

We can’t make this stuff up.

Robbery & Romance:

Three suspects were arrested after they shot and robbed a man at a Florida Burger King last month.

And how’d they lure him into the fast food joint? With a date.

Investigators say the third suspect, 19-year-old Toccara Monye Lockhart, met with the shooting victim at the Burger King.

The victim told investigators he set up a romantic date with Lockhart, bought food, then took Lockhart back to his office.

The victim said he went outside when two men jumped him.  He was shot in the shoulder and hit over the head during the struggle.

The three made off with about $320. Oh, and at least one of them with a belly full of fries. Read about it here…[ActionNewsJax]

Self-Caught:

A South Florida bank robber aided in his own capture when he left a piece of paper at the crime scene donning his name.

Genius, huh?

Felipe Cruz approached the bank teller at Chase Bank in Pompano Beach and instructed her to give him money. “Give me the 100s, 50s, 20s now,” he wrote on a note that he gave to her. He asked her for the money twice, but she refused. Cruz fled the scene, but left an incriminating piece of evidence behind- a completed job application he had filled out.

His fingerprints were lifted from the application and Broward Sheriff’s Office investigators later determined his address as four miles from the bank.

Fire In The Sky:

A natural phenomenon that filled the sky with a bright sun halo turned into something more sinister and extraterrestrial, when one Florida resident believed the sunlight refracting through ice crystals in high-level cirrus clouds to be a UFO.

Yep. That happened. Read about it here…[Gawker]

Facebook Felonies:

In one of the most tragic stories we’ve heard this week, an unborn baby was killed when his mother was shot in the stomach over a Facebook dispute.

The shooting happened Wednesday in Jacksonville after the victim went to Virginia Wyche’s home to discuss the altercation the two had online the night before. That’s when things got heated and police say Wyche shot the pregnant woman in the stomach.

The 35-year-old woman is facing a murder charge and her bond has been set at $1 million, according to the Jacksonville County Sheriff’s Office. She’s scheduled to appear in court on May 15.
