Mean Girls may have been released 10 years ago, but there’s still so much we don’t know about the production and filming of the cult classic.

Like, did you know the actor who played Glen Coco appeared in the film for free? In fact, he was never even hired to be in the film. Actor David Reale recently told Dazed how he managed to be in the film anyway.

Reale auditioned for a part in the movie, but didn’t get picked. Since the film was shooting across the street from his Toronto apartment, he decided to walk over the next day to watch to cast shoot and scam some free food.

The film’s director, Mark Waters, spotted Reale, recognizing him from his audition. Waters assumed the actor had been chose to play the role of an extra on set and promptly found a place for him in an upcoming scene.

“Hey, I’m going to put you right in the front on this next scene and you’ll have a name and everything,” he said.

And that, folks, is how Glen Coco was born!
