Yesterday, more than 2,000 poeple said goodbye to the great Maya Angelou at her memorial service, which was held at Wake Forest University in North Carolina.

While former President Bill Clinton and talk-show legend Oprah Winfrey were there to pay their respects to one of their most beloved friends and supporters, it was Michelle Obama‘s eulogy speech that really made the tears roll.

The First Lady approached the podium, where she shared some incredibly inspiring words with the service-goers about how the historic writer influenced her.

She told the audience:

“When I think about Maya Angelou, I think about the affirming power of her words,” Obama said. “Her words sustained me on every step of my journey … Words so powerful that they carried a little black girl from the South Side of Chicago all the way to the White House.”
