So this happened.

An elderly man who got into a tense stand-off with police in May while carrying his rifle outside a Michigan ice cream shop was granted his firearm back the very next day.

Because that makes sense.

Joseph Houseman, 63, stood with his rifle in front of a Kalamazoo Dairy Queen in pajama pants, screaming at traffic. When police responded to the disturbance, Houseman gave the middle finger to the officers, grabbed his crotch and shouted about a revolution.

The “Open Carry” gun advocate didn’t stop there.

A police officer repeatedly asked Houseman to put down his gun so they could talk, but he refused and accused the cop of “acting like a prick” and being in a gang.

At one point, when asked his name, Houseman identified himself as “Joe Schmoe.”

After 40 minutes, Houseman put down his rifle, which was then confiscated by police. He also offered his real name and said he was sorry.

“I apologize. I have a bad attitude because we’re losing our rights,” he said.

The next day, Houseman went to the police station to claim his rifle. Police did not arrest or charge Houseman with any crimes, as officials believe he was not “brandishing” the weapon.

According to the Huffington Post, although the incident occurred in May, the video of the standoff was just obtained by the Kalamazoo Gazette under the state’s Freedom of Information Act.

And good thing. Now we know all we need to do is apologize to avoid jail…or getting shot down by the police.

At least in Houseman’s world.
