The Free Application for Federal Student Aid has apologized after tweeting a meme that indirectly called applicants poor.
The tweet above was sent out in a comedic fashion with the popular line from the hit film Bridesmaids. After many students tweeted FAFSA about how offended they were, the tweet was deleted and replaced with an apology.
We apologize for the insensitivity of our previous tweet. Our goal is to make college a reality for all. We’re very sorry.

With over a million students using FAFSA to pay their way through college, loans and serious financial debt are no laughing matter. Some applicants understood the humor behind the joke, but others believed that the government site was out of line.
It’s sad how insensitive people can be to those less fortunate. #FASFA pic.twitter.com/Acsahr9fmy

The FASFA tweet is funny in 3 ways. Pic is funny, it’s funny because it was bad, it’s funny because they tried to be cool and failed badly.

Fasfa & Sallie Mae are a part of bigger problem. We live in a nation that rather see its future in perpetual debt than have free education

#AskFAFSA Why does you find needing loans for our corrupt higher education system funny? @FASFA

The FASFA help me I’m poor tweet didn’t offend me. Cause. Help me. I’m poor and need money to go to grad school…

It’s safe to say that after this meme fail, FAFSA will stay far away from internet games and keep it professional. At least we hope so.
