The family of Victoria Wilcher, the 3-year-old girl who was severely attacked by pitbulls, is turning down KFC’s money after being allegedly escorted from the fast-food chain restaurant since she was “scaring customers.”
After the incident was reported as a hoax, Wilcher’s family turned down a donation of $30,000, which was meant to cover Victoria’s medical bills. The family’s attorney, Bill Kellum, told the Jackson Clarion-Ledger:
We didn’t feel it was appropriate to accept it after everything KFC has done.
Even after doubt was cast on the story, KFC decided not to withdraw the money that was donated, and Victoria will still get the treatment she needs.
Las Vegas plastic surgeon Frank Stile, who has a nonprofit foundation, is reported to be handling her cosmetic surgery, while Florida’s Center for Custom Prosthetics has offered to provide her with a prosthetic eye.
In addition to the support the family has been receiving, they were given $100,000 in donations from crowd-funding site GoFundMe. Kellum says they’ll be holding that money in trust for Victoria, with a non-family party in charge.
