In light of the Dream Defenders addressing oppression and taking initiative towards peace in Palestine, a 15-year-old Palestinian-American boy from Tampa, Florida, has been released on bail in Israel after being beaten before his arrest, which occurred during protests in East Jerusalem.

Tariq Abu Khdeir, a Palestinian-American boy, was told today that he will be under house arrest in Jerusalem for nine days. The young boy was arrested on Thursday when protests over the murder of his cousin Mohammed Abu Khdeir, turned into a street battle with Israeli police.

The Israeli police have arrested six suspects in Mohammed’s kidnap and murder but the Israeli newspaper, Haaretz, gave no further details about the identities of the people arrested.

Earlier that week, police acknowledged for the first time that they may have found a connection to the murder. Police believe extremist Jews were taking revenge for last month’s abduction and murder of three Israeli teenagers in the West Bank. Their bodies were found last week, and Mohammed was killed hours after their funeral.

Mohammed’s mother said:

I don’t have any peace in my heart, even if they capture who they say killed my son. They’re only going to ask them questions and then release them. What’s the point? They need to treat them the way they treat us. They need to demolish their home and round them up, the way they do it to our children.

We pray for the Khdeir family and may peace be brought to Palestine. See the photo of the Tariq Abu Khdeir after he was beaten by police here.
