When you’re 13 years old, have already been signed to a major record label like Jay Z’s Roc Nation, and have major blockbuster deals thrown your way, it’s pretty hard not to let it all go to your head. Willow Smith, the youngest child of Jada Pinkett and Will Smith, might’ve had all this and more before she officially hit puberty, but she’s managed to keep a clear head. In fact, she’s created a world of her own.

In Teen Vogue‘s August issue, the singer/actress opens up about her career, fashion sense, and outlook on life. It’s been a while since we’ve seen Willow on the big screen, and while her older brother Jaden Smith has continued to pursue his acting career, Willow chose to drop the screenplays and go back to middle school, opting out of the starring role in the highly anticipated remake of Annie with Jamie Foxx. As for her singing career, that’s also been on hold as well. It’s been four years since Willow’s hit single “Whip My Hair” dropped in 2010, and although she’s released some music to her Soundcloud, she has yet to produce a debut album. However, Willow assures us there’s something in the works.

“I have enough songs to make an album, but most of the songs I don’t like. It’s going to be something outlandish, something that nobody can imagine, something that comes from me and only me. Something we need right now.”

Willow’s career goals might be on hold, but her fashion sense has managed to stay consistently her own over the years. As an even younger version of herself, the starlet was recognized for her daring and unique style, rocking mohawks and platform shoes. Her hair has also been a particular element of her fashion sense, changing from long to short and every color of the rainbow.

“My style is who I am all the time,” she says, “and who I am always changes.”

But she isn’t all about the fashion and entertainment business. Since her absence from the music and movie screen scene, Willow has taken to Twitter to unleash some of her energy and wisdom.

“I just felt like people needed to hear what I had to say, man. I feel like I can really give people a different view on things.”

Considering the media and controversy surrounding her and her brother’s unique sense of being and behavior, it will be interesting to see what new point of view she has to offer.
