Ed Sheeran is the man! If you didn’t know, now you know.

The UK singer/songwriter made headlines over the weekend when he was touted as the “most important UK act in black and urban music” by BBC’s 1xtra music station. Not only were black music lovers confused, so were their white counterparts.

To play devil’s advocate, UK artists like Ed, Disclosure, and Sam Smith (especially) are the most popular artists performing soul music right now, but the headline was definitely side-eye worthy.

It’s very obvious that Ed Sheeran isn’t black and don’t be alarmed, he’s not trying to be black either.

We love Ed, and although we think the people at 1xtra could’ve used different semantics to describe soul-inspired/R&B music, we decided to give the people what they want and start a little sh*t.

So here are Ed’s “blackest” moments…if “blackest” moments were actually a thing.

1. When he hung out with Rick Ross and became an official “black bottle boy.”

2. When his sneakerhead fetish became public knowledge.

Because “black people loveeee sneakers”….

Jordans more specifically (insert sarcasm).

3. Ed Sheeran’s Party Game Is Proper. So Gangsta.

4. When he appeared on VIBE Magazine’s cover as one of three “soul brothers.”

Oh, and the ski mask is an added bonus of blackness.

5. This!

6. That Time He Performed A Dope Cover Of Blackstreet’s “No Diggity.”

7. Oh, and Ty Dolla $ign’s “Paranoid.”

8. When He Was Kickin’ It With Game and Became A Member Of Bloody Money along with Khloe Kardashian.

9. When He Collaborated With Lupe Fiasco…The “Blackest” Rapper In The Game.

10. When he revealed his favorite rapper is the late great Big Pun. Who would’ve guessed?
