Members of Nigeria’s Boko Haram extremist group have released a disturbing video mocking the global #BringBackOurGirls campaign to rescue the more than 200 schoolgirls kidnapped by the militants in April.

In the 16 minute video, part of which can be viewed above, the group’s leader, Abubakar Shekau, can be seen dancing and laughing, flanked by other Islamist militants and armored vehicles.

“You’ve been going around saying, ‘Bring back our girls,'” he said in the video, which was shared over social media and distributed by the AFP news agency on Sunday.

“Bring Back Our Girls… bring back our army,” he says. The news service points out that the line may be a reference to an earlier proposal that the group would free the students in exchange for the release of detained Boko Haram fighters in Nigeria.

In the video, Shekau also claims responsibility for several explosions in the city of Lagos last month. The Nigerian government says they know where the girls are, but fears the militants would kill the girls is a rescue effort was actually carried out.

Meanwhile, Nigerian authorities claim to have arrested a man claiming to be a key member of Boko Haram.

From CNN:

Detectives arrested Mohammed Zakari, 30, as he fled from what police and the military describe as an intensive counterinsurgency sweep in the area.

Zakari is accused in connection with the deaths of seven people, including women and children, according to Nigerian police.

He is also accused of taking part in an April attack against Nigerian customs officers in Kari, police say.

According to the Human Rights Watch, in this year alone, Boko Haram has been responsible for at least 2,053 civilian deaths in 2014. The group based its account on media reports and field investigations.
