Another airline has lost contact with a plane, this time flying from Burkina Faso to Algiers across the Sahara. Algeria’s national airline, Air Algerie, said it had lost contact with one of its planes, Flight AH 5017, about 50 minutes after take-off from Ouagadougou. The plane, carrying 110 passengers and six crew members, was last seen at 01:55 GMT. On Wednesday, another “botched” execution took place, this time in Arizona. Witnesses say the execution of double-murderer Joseph Wood took nearly two hours — the inmate gasped and snorted for well over an hour after lethal injection. Arizona carried out the execution with a two-drug combination it had never before tried — a practice that is sure to fan the flames around how U.S. states carry out the death penalty. A 27-year-old Seattle Seahawk is hanging up his helmet and retiring from the NFL due to a history of concussions. Just two days before the Seattle Seahawks kick off their 2014 training camp, veteran receiver Sidney Rice made his announcement. A 2007 second-round pick of the Minnesota Vikings out of South Carolina, Rice finishes his seven-year career with 243 receptions for 3,592 yards and 30 touchdowns. A doctor who has played a key role in fighting the unprecedented Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone has fallen ill to the virus he worked so hard to curb. Dr. Sheik Humarr Khan is being treated by the French aid group Medicins Sans Frontieres — also known as Doctors Without Borders — in Kailahun, Sierra Leone, Tim Shenk, an agency spokesman, told CNN. Before catching the virus, Khan had been overseeing Ebola treatment and isolation units at Kenema Government Hospital. Read about it here…[CNN]
