The family of the Staten Island man who died after being placed in a chokehold by police is now trying to seek justice for him.

Eric Garner‘s family members are asking federal prosecutors to investigate his death as a civil rights violation, and are calling for a federal inquiry.

According to the NY Times, Rev. Al Sharpton attended a rally in Harlem this week and revealed to the crowd that his family has met with prosecutors on Friday.

Garner’s mother told the crowd:

“At the end of the day, what this is all about, we want justice for my son, your son, your daughter,” Mr. Garner’s mother, Gwen Carr, said at the rally. “I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy.”

As previously reported, a spokeswoman for the NYPD revealed that one of the officers involved in the chokehold case has been placed on modified duty and was ordered to surrender his badge and gun.
