In newly released audio, taken in 2001 just hours before the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, former President Bill Clinton told an audience in Australia that he could have killed Osama bin Laden. “I’m just saying, you know, if I were Osama bin Laden … He’s a very smart guy. I spent a lot of time thinking about him. And I nearly got him once,” Clinton said. “I nearly got him. And I could have killed him, but I would have had to destroy a little town called Kandahar in Afghanistan and kill 300 innocent women and children, and then I would have been no better than him.” Clinton’s remarks referenced a proposed strike in December 1998 after it was discovered bin Laden was staying at the governor’s residence in Kandahar. This week, Uganda’s Constitutional Court annulled anti-gay legislation that was signed into law in February. According to the BBC, the ruling claimed that the controversial bill was passed by MPs in December without the requisite quorum and was therefore illegal. The law allowed for life imprisonment for “aggravated homosexuality” and banned the “promotion of homosexuality.” Read about it here…[BBC]

And then there’s this. Despite her irresponsible cultural appropriation (and her blasé feelings about offending different cultures), Katy Perry has quite the admirer. HuffPost’s Jen Bendery overheard the President singing praises for the “Dark Horse” singer at an event on Thursday. “I love Katy Perry,” Obama said. “She is just a wonderful person. I just met her mom, now I know why she’s such a wonderful person.” Perry performed that evening at a White House event for the Special Olympics. Read about it here…[HuffPost]

A 12-year-old Florida boy was arrested and charged with murder in the death of a homeless man last month. According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, Sharron Townsend shot and killed Thomas Trent in a parking lot on June 28. Investigators said Townsend and Trent did not know each other, and the killing appears to be random.
