A 21-year-old Mexican man is dead after a gun he posed with while taking a selfie went off, fatally wounding him.
Friends say Oscar Aguilar was drinking in northern Mexico City before the tragic accident.
“I heard a gunshot, and then I heard somebody screaming and realized somebody had been hurt,” Aguilar’s 57-year-old neighbor Manfredo Paez Paez told Bakersfield, California, ABC affiliate KERO. “I called the police, and when they arrived they found that he was still alive.”
Aguilar died on the way to the hospital. Authorities say the gun was borrowed. The selfie he took was meant to go on Facebook, the Ministry of Public Security said.
Police have ruled the shooting an accident, saying the young man did not know the gun was loaded.
