Toddlers nowadays are just as eager to get behind the wheel as a teen who just got their license fresh from the DMV.

An autistic 6-year-old boy decided to take his miniature ATV truck for a spin Sunday night on the Bronx River Parkway in New York City, but it wasn’t long before he was stopped by some Good Samaritans.

The young boy’s trip started around 7 p.m. in a city park. Shortly after, family members lost track of him and the toy vehicle. Relatives immediately reported the boy missing to Mount Vernon police when they couldn’t find him nearby.

“They realized pretty quickly he was gone but couldn’t lay eyes on him,” Kieran O’Leary, spokesman for the Westchester County police, said of the Mount Vernon family.

Around 7:40 p.m. Westchester County police started receiving 911 calls about an oddly small-sized unlicensed driver on the road. He had driven quite the distance on his Power Wheels ATV, but didn’t make it too far before motorists noticed him. Three drivers slowed down to surround the boy, and protect him from on-coming cars that might not have been able to spot him.

Once they slowed down enough, the motorists were able to pull the boy and his ride off the parkway. The boy was taken to Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital, and was later reunited with his family after being reported injury-free.
