President Barack Obama released a statement on Saturday saying that airstrikes in Iraq will continue for as long as necessary to protect both U.S personnel and religious minorities who are trapped on a mountain by militants in northern Iraq. Shortly before leaving for a family vacation, Obama said in the White House: “I’m not going to give a particular timetable. We are going to maintain vigilance. All Iraqi communities are ultimately threatened by these barbaric terrorists.” He also mentioned that Iraq’s security situation needs a lot of improvement, which will take some time. [USA Today]

How can a critter so small terrify a person so much? Yes, it’s possible but we didn’t think it would go to this extreme. A house in Wales caught on fire when a woman called a relative to help her kill a spider. The woman took it upon her herself to spray the spider with an aerosol can and set it on fire. The fire was quickly doused and thankfully, nobody was hurt. [Gawker]

Hilarious, but true. A KFC thief in Nebraska recently stole $2 worth of chicken. The thief felt so guilty that she sent the money back, along with an apology letter. “This $2 is for the piece of chicken I brought home with me on Tuesday. That’s stealing. Sorry! I took more on my plate than I could eat and I knew it would get thrown away there because it couldn’t get put back on the buffet, so I put it in my purse and brought it home,” she writes. “I do love your chicken!”,” the thief explains. There’s no money like pancake money. The great grandson of Anna Short Herrington — the woman behind the famous pancake line Aunt Jemima — has filed a lawsuit against PepsiCo., the Quaker Oats Company, and two other businesses, claiming that the companies deny his great grandmother was ever an employee at Quaker Oats. He also claims that they’ve continued to exploit her image for more than 60 years without paying up. Harrington’s family believes that the company has used her image for racial exploitation and he also believes that she was talked out of a lawyer so the company wouldn’t have to pay for the recipe.
