Breakups can get ugly; if the two parties are petty and let it happen.
And it seems like Rita Ora and Calvin Harris’ breakup has entered the ugly realm.
Fans who tuned into the 2014 Teen Choice Awards on Sunday to see Rita Ora perform “I Will Never Let You Down” were disappointed when the British singer never hit the stage.
So what happened?
According to Rita, ex-boyfriend Calvin Harris, who wrote and produced the song, nixed the performance.
Rita explained the circumstances while appearing on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show:
“I was supposed to perform, and for anyone that doesn’t understand how it works, he wrote and produced the song — I mean, he’s an incredible songwriter, never going to disregard his talents, he’s incredible…So [Harris] has to approve anything TV-wise, for anybody that doesn’t get it…so he has to approve the rights to [use the song] and he didn’t approve the Teen Choice Awards.”
When the news started to make the rounds, Harris went to Twitter to tell his side of the story:
You’ll only know 1 side of the story RE Teen choice awards because I choose not to talk to the papers about every aspect of my personal life

But just know I had a damn good reason
