More details have surfaced surrounding actor Robin Williams’ death.

Susan Schneider, the late actor’s wife, revealed yesterday Robin had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, news he was, “not ready yet to share publicly.”

Susan says she hopes that by sharing her husbands struggles with both depression and Parkinson’s Disease will give strength to others “to seek the care and support they need to treat whatever battles they are facing so they may feel less afraid.”

Below is Schneider’s full statement:

“Robin spent so much of his life helping others. Whether he was entertaining millions on stage, film or television, our troops on the frontlines, or comforting a sick child – Robin wanted us to laugh and to feel less afraid.

Since his passing, all of us who loved Robin have found some solace in the tremendous outpouring of affection and admiration for him from the millions of people whose lives he touched. His greatest legacy, besides his three children, is the joy and happiness he offered to others, particuarly to those fighting personal battles.

Robin’s sobriety was intact and he was brace as he struggled with his own battles of depression, anxiety as well as early stages of Parkinson’s Disease, which he was not yet ready to share publicly.

It is our hope in the wake of Robin’s tragic passing, that others will find the strength to seek the care and support they need to treat whatever battles they are facing so they may feel less afraid.”

Since his death, countless actors and comedians have come forward to express their sadness and heartache over Robin’s passing, but no message hit home quite like actor Michael J. Fox’s.

Fox, who has been suffering from Parkinson’s since 1991, said he was “stunned” to learn that Williams had been diagnosed with the disease.

Though he is no longer with us physically, Robin will live on through his movies. Specifically, the many projects he was working on just before his death.

Entertainment Tonight released a clip of the 63-year-olds forthcoming film, Merry Friggin’ Christmas. The movie is the story of a man named Boyd Mitchler and his wife Luann. The couple is planning to spend the holidays with Boyd’s father, Mitch, and the rest of his dysfunctional family. Upon arrival Boyd realizes he’s forgotten all his son’s Christmas gifts at home, four hours away. Upon making this discovery, he, his father and younger brother hop in the car to make the eight-hour round trip before morning.

The film also stars Joel McHale and Lauren Graham.

Merry Friggin’ Christmas is set to hit theaters November 7.
