Michael Brown’s parents hold a press conference to discuss preliminary autopsy findings.

 ———–

An autopsy performed on Sunday revealed that Michael Brown, the unarmed teenager who was shot in Ferguson last week by officer Darren Wilson, was shot six times, including twice in his head.

Brown was also shot four times in the right arm. The bullets, according to Dr. Michael M. Baden, who was assigned by the family to perform an additional autopsy, were fired into the front of the 18-year-old’s body.

According to the New York Times:

One of the bullets entered the top of Mr. Brown’s skull, suggesting his head was bent forward when it struck him and caused a fatal injury, according to Dr. Michael M. Baden, the former chief medical examiner for the City of New York, who flew to Missouri on Sunday at the family’s request to conduct the separate autopsy. It was likely the last of bullets to hit him, he said.

The bullets did not appear to have been shot from very close range because no gunpowder was present on his body. However, that determination could change if it turns out that there is gunshot residue on Mr. Brown’s clothing, to which Dr. Baden did not have access.

On Sunday, Attorney General Eric Holder also requested that the Justice Department conduct its own autopsy on the teenager.

“Due to the extraordinary circumstances involved in this case and at the request of the Brown family, Attorney General Holder has instructed Justice Department officials to arrange for an additional autopsy to be performed by a federal medical examiner,” Justice Department spokesman Brian Fallon said in statement. “This independent examination will take place as soon as possible. Even after it is complete, Justice Department officials still plan to take the state-performed autopsy into account in the course of their investigation.”

Meanwhile, protestors and police continue to clash as the second night of an imposed curfew began in Ferguson.
