Black excellence is everywhere – even in a baseball game.
The incomparable 13-year-old pitcher Mo’ne Davis quickly made history after competing with Philadelphia’s Taney Dragons team in this year’s Little League World Series. Not only was she the only girl on the team, she was just one of two girls in the entire series, and she was the first girl to ever throw a shutout game in the history of the Little League World Series.
Now, Mo’ne is hitting the cover of Sports Illustrated and has officially become the first Little League player to do that as well. In the August 25th issue, she tells the publication that she never imagined she’d be so successful at her sport. Simply put, Mo’ne explained:
“To be honest, I never thought I’d be famous for baseball.”
Not only has she gotten the attention of S.I., some major athletes and famous sports fans have congratulated Mo’ne via Twitter. The list is long and includes the likes of Kevin Durant, Ellen DeGeneres, Lil Wayne, Magic Johnson, and more.
