We’re kicking off the week with some interesting tales in “Stories From Florida.”
From one man attempting to end a boy’s innocent lemonade stand, to a woman ignoring compassion with a simple pay it forward gesture, here’s a few stories from Florida that will leave you puzzled.
Lemonade Mouth
In an attempt to raise money for an iPod, 12-year-old T.J. Guerrero set up a lemonade stand in his Dunedin town. While he’s attracting business with a warm smile and tasty treats, his 61-year-old neighbor called police and county officials to shut Guerrero’s business down.
Doug Wilkey contends that the Palm Harbor Middle School student’s year-round operation is an “illegal business” that causes excessive traffic, noise, trash, illegal parking and other problems that reduce his property values.
“Please help me regain my quiet home and neighborhood,” Wilkey, 61, wrote.
“We’re not in the business of trying to regulate kids like that; nor do we want to do any code enforcement like that,” said Dunedin planning and development director Greg Rice. “We are not out there trying to put lemonade stands out of business.”

Do You Care?
Everyone enjoys a free coffee, so it was only right that over 300 people took part in a special “pay it forward” gesture at a St. Petersberg Starbucks.
According to First Bay News, a woman started the chain through the store’s drive-thru by paying for the person behind her. Each car returned the favor for a few hours, until the 379th customer declined to participate.
The chain finally ended around 6 p.m. when customer number 379 pulled up and ordered a regular coffee. Barista Vu Nguyen leaned out the window and explained the chain that started earlier in the day, asking if she’d like to participate. She declined, saying she only wanted to pay for her coffee.
