After the tragedy of a 9-year-old girl accidentally killing a gun range instructor, anger and criticism towards the young girl’s parents have been at an all time high, but the victim’s family does not cling to any ill feelings towards the girl. The ex-wife of the instructor has stated that her family feels sorry for the child and wants to write a letter to comfort her. Her children want to write the letter “knowing their family has to grieve through the same process.” Charles Vacca was standing next to the girl when she pulled the trigger of an Uzi, wrenching the weapon upward and fatally shooting him in the head. Our prayers go out to their families. [Huffington Post]

Texas Judge Lee Yeakel struck down a portion of an abortion law that limits the use of abortion-inducing drugs, bans abortions at the 20th week of pregnancy, and requires clinics to meet surgical facility standards. The law, which was supposed to go into effect on Monday, would have closed down more than a dozen clinics. Lt Governor David Dewhurst told the Texas Tribune the court’s decision “undermines a concerted effort to improve health care for women in Texas.” State Senator Wendy Davis called the ruling a “victory for women’s health care.” [BBC News]

A book-less library? Say it ain’t so. Florida’s newest school, Florida Polytechnic University, welcomed their first students this week and has a brand new book-less library to go with it. The library doesn’t have one physical book, but instead 135,000 e-books. Director of libraries, Kathryn Miller, said “Our on-campus library is entirely digital. We have access to print books through the state university system’s interlibrary loan program.  However, we strongly encourage our students to read and work with information digitally.” Miller said that one of its objectives was to “prepare students for the high-tech workforce by giving them hands-on experience with advanced technology.” [The Guardian]

The Department of Homeland Security has denied reports claiming that the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) has militants stationed in Juarez, Mexico who plan an “imminent” attack against the United States. Homeland Security Jeh Johnson said publicly that both his agency and the FBI are unaware of any specific, credible threat to the U.S. homeland’ from the terror network. White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said flatly that “the most detailed intelligence assessment that I can offer from here is that there is no evidence or indication right now that [ISIS] is actively plotting to attack the United States homeland. That’s true right now.” We truly hope this does not escalate any further. [Daily Mail]
