On Tuesday morning, singer Chris Brown pled guilty to misdemeanor assault for punching a fan outside of his Washington, D.C. hotel in October 2013.

Brown, who arrived at the courthouse alongside girlfriend Karrueche, was sentenced to time served.

According to the Washington Post, Brown said a simple “I’m sorry,” during the court proceedings. Prosecutors agreed to ask the judge to sentence Brown to probation in exchange for the plea. They also agreed not to ask for any jail time for the 25-year-old Grammy winner.

Brown’s bodyguard, Christopher Hollosy, 36, was found guilty in a two-day trial in April after two witnesses testified that both Brown and Hollosy hit Parker Adams when he tried to take a picture with the star. Brown was in the District to attend a Howard University Homecoming party.

The incident occurred while Brown was on probation in a felony assault case in California after attacking then-girlfriend Rihanna before the 2009 Grammys.
